I just Caught one of Maury's slease shows, and I see that he quite often employs a polygraph examiner concerning alleged infidelity cases.
I don't know who the examiner is, but I have yet to see where the DI has been anything less than 100% accurate as verified by subsequent confessions.
Since I seem to be banned from GM's AP site before getting started, perhaps someone else can recommend he view some of these shows??
I'd be interested in his response.

Do we really want to give him any credibility in his retort that polygraph is nothing more than an interrogation device?

This, once again I say, is the basic spine of the lie detector gameshow. This was a British gameshow which ran for just days (it was only a prank on it's contestants)that had a fake lie detector. The show used the threat of the "machine" to illicit confessions to highly embarrassing behavior and thoughts---many of which were statistically likely in the first place.
I posted this clip several weeks back on my former series "Clip of the Day".

This premise is what I believe drives the TV polygraph format's viability.

Everytime I run into the one detective all he talks about is Povich and how the polygraph is right every time and they confess every time.

When I fail to get confessions he rubs that in too. I don't think viewers get the feeling that its only an interrogation tool, I think they really beleive the results are accurate.

Stat, I saw that when you posted it before. Its pretty funny and obviously an actor.

They get a paid vacation when they confess for Maury - and they don't go to jail. Tell your detective friend that all you'll need is your own personal discretionary fund and you'll get him more confessions too.

(Don't forget to remind him that every confession you get is one more than he got!)
